Asking the right questions

The three-switch-one-bulb riddle is sometimes asked as a job interview question. If you're not familiar, it goes something like this: Three switches before you are wired up to a lightbulb inside of a sealed, opaque box. All of the switches and the lightbulb are off. You may toggle each switch as many times as you like, but only before you open the box, and you can only open the box once. Can you determine which switch controls the bulb? The answer is generally along the lines of: Turn on any two switches, wait a few minutes, turn off one of the two "on" switches, open the box, and touch the bulb. If the bulb is off and cold, it's controlled by the untouched switch. If the bulb is off and hot, it's controlled by the switch turned off before the box is opened. If the bulb is lit, it's controlled by the switch left on. Typically, the question ends there, and the interview moves on. Popular Mechanics even calls this solution " a satisfying answer ." H...

The final word on "WHICH MG RX-78-2 SHOULD I GET"

This question pops up a lot. Every gunpla builder has probably asked this at least once. Let's answer this dilemma once and for all. And maybe people can just share this post, instead of wasting time repeating themselves over and over again. Okay, so how many of them are there? Counting the normal releases that can be easily found in hobby stores or online, there have been seven so far. They are, in order of release: RX-78-2 , 1995 (colloquially referred to as Ver. 1.0) RX-78-2 Ver. 1.5 , 2000 RX-78-2 Ver. Ka , 2002 RX-78-2 Ver. OYW , 2007 (standard release) RX-78-2 Ver. 2.0 , 2008 RX-78-2 Ver. 3.0 , 2013 RX-78-02 The Origin , 2015 The list links to the information page for each kit on dalong.net . (It's a fantastic resource.) The earlier kits--1.0, 1.5, and Ver. Ka--have several shortcomings, and newer builders may find them significantly less satisfying to build. (Expert builders may enjoy the extra challenge, but they've probably already build one of t...

MG GP03S Postmortem

Image
About two months ago, I uploaded an unboxing video of the MG GP03S.  I tore into the plastic bags and started building later that night, right after filming, and it took me all the time since then to finish this kit.  This is that unboxing video. And now I have to eat a lot of my own words.  The review and build video won't be done for a while yet, but there are a few things that I can say about it now, while the experience is still fresh in my mind.  Hopefully, after I've had some time to take a break, come back, and re-evaluate this kit, I can be a bit more impartial.  In the mean time, I'll warn you that what I have to say right now won't be very positive.
